A Two Martian Years Survey of Water Ice Clouds on Mars With ACS Onboard TGO

چکیده
The middle infrared (MIR) channel of the Atmospheric Chemistry Suite (ACS) instrument onboard ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) ESA-Roscosmos mission has performed Solar occultation measurements Martian atmosphere in 2.3-4.2 $\mu$m spectral range since March 2018, which now covers two Years (MY). We use methodology previously developed for study MY 34 Global Dust Storm (GDS) (Stcherbinine et al., 2020) to monitor properties (effective radii, extinction, altitude) water ice clouds over first years covered by ACS-MIR. observations encompass period $L_s$ = 163{\deg} 181{\deg} 36. determine that typical altitude varies 20 40 km between summer and winter, with a maximum extension up 80 during midlatitudes. Similarly, we also note limited temporal range, polar regions compare acquired GDS from same 35, using latter as reference characterize effects this on clouds' properties. In addition, our retrievals predictions Mars Planetary Climate Model (PCM), shows reasonable agreement overall clouds, although model usually predicts lower altitudes top clouds.

Influence of water ice clouds on Martian tropical atmospheric temperatures
[1] The Reanalysis derived from the UK Mars general circulation model assimilation of Thermal Emission Spectrometer temperature and dust opacity retrievals at present provides the best estimate of the evolving state of the Martian atmosphere over the course of the Mars Global Surveyor mapping mission. A Control simulation has also been carried out using the same evolving dust distribution as th...
متن کاملDiurnal variation and radiative influence of Martian water ice clouds
[1] We have identified regions in the Martian tropics with anomalously warm nighttime surface temperatures. The seasonal evolution of these anomalies is strongly correlated with the waxing and waning of the tropical cloud belt that is most prominent during Northern Hemisphere summer. We attribute the anomalies to enhanced downward infrared radiation from water ice clouds. The close agreement wi...
متن کاملWater Ice Clouds in the Martian Atmosphere: a Comparison of Two Methods
Introduction: Over the past decade there has been an increased interest in water-ice clouds in the Martian atmosphere and the role they may play in the water cycle. Water-ice clouds in the Martian atmosphere have been inferred, historically, through observations of " blue " and " white " clouds [1], but the first positive confirmation of water-ice in the atmosphere came during the Mariner 9 mis...

[1] We have made daily global maps that cover both polar and equatorial regions of Mars for Ls 135 –360 and 0 –111 using the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) red and blue wide-angle swaths taken from May 1999 to January 2001. We study the seasonal distribution of condensate clouds and dust clouds during roughly 1 Martian year using these daily global maps. We present the dev...
متن کاملWater ice clouds in the Martian atmosphere: General circulation model experiments with a simple cloud scheme
[1] We present the first comprehensive general circulation model study of water ice condensation and cloud formation in the Martian atmosphere. We focus on the effects of condensation in limiting the vertical distribution and transport of water and on the importance of condensation for the generation of the observed Martian water cycle. We do not treat cloud ice radiative effects, ice sedimenta...
